Moral apex: Arrested March 17, 2009, by FBI agents at his home for downloading and storing 134 images of child pornography, all of the same girl, a known victim (”that is,” explains NJ.com, “a real child who has been identified by law enforcement officers and entered into the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children ‘NCMEC’ database”) about nine years old, engaged in “explicit sexual conduct with an adult male,” according to an affidavit by Special Agent Lina M. Ramirez.
What’s worse: He’s the father of a baby girl.
What’s even worse: “He also accessed an invitation-only Internet forum called ‘Incest Taboo,’ which is a collection of links to various incest chat rooms that is used primarily to share and comment on child pornography, according to a federal criminal complaint.”

During the raid: Carlino “made numerous admissions pertaining to his downloading and viewing of child pornography,” according to Ramirez, and “stated that viewing child pornography became an addiction. Carlino further admitted to adopting false personas while online — alternatively pretending to be a 13-year-old girl and a mother in her 20s — so that men would be more interested in chatting with him, and sending him child pornography.” (NJ.com)
The bizarre way they caught him: “Ramirez said she began investigating Carlino on Feb. 18 based on a lead provided by the Serbian Ministry of Interior.
“The Serbian ministry came across the child pornography during the course of conducting court authorized electronic surveillance of a person suspected of infecting computers with the ‘Poison Ivy’ virus, she said in court papers. The virus allows an individual to control an infected computer remotely.
“The person the Serbian ministry was investigating was using the Poison Ivy virus in ‘an attempt to steal financial information from others by infecting their computers.’
“Carlino’s computer was infected with the Poison Ivy virus, according to court papers.
“Carlino’s computer was monitored by the Serbian ministry ‘for approximately 24-36 hours during the period from approximately Nov. 6-13,’ according to court papers.
“‘During the monitoring period in November 2008, the MUP (the Serbian Ministry of Interior) observed the computer operator on the Carlino computer view child pornography, save the images to an external storage device and delete the images,’ said Ramirez.” (NJ.com)
How else could he plea but guilty? He couldn’t — so he did, on August 12, 2009.
Sentencing: Slated for November 24, 2009. Maximum penalty: 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
Meanwhile: He’s under house arrest, strapped to a monitoring device.

Pathetic: On a newer MySpace page he hasn’t visited since November 20, 2008 — just one week after he downloaded the kiddie porn — Carlino writes in his “About me” blurb:

My kids are incredible it is exciting to see God work in their lives! I can’t wait to see what unfolds! Always remember that God has a plan for your life and the devil wants to steal it! My daughter is now walking and running around like a mad women(she gets that from her mom) and trying to back talk already. … My wife is the most incredible mom! At times she doesnt believe it but I have absolute faith in her. It is great to give her the opportunity to do what she has always wanted to do, be a mom! We are going on 5 years now and wow I would trade a day of it. 5 years together and we have had smiles that will last forever. What an amazing opportunity to build a legacy together.
