Sinner of the Month: Timothy Dane Tillman

Timothy Dane TillmanClaims to fame: Former pastor, Pentecostal, “Christ-centered” Vincent Revival Center, Vincent, Alabama; husband; father of two girls; forger; liar; coward; adulterer; murderer

Moral apex: Blew away his wife with a shotgun so he could marry his girlfriend — whom, by the way, he did indeed marry.

Convicted: October 23, 2009.

Cowardly beyond words: He shot his wife in the back, at the Tillman family home, claiming the weapon had gone off by accident, “when his shotgun struck a wooden door frame.” (If you’ve ever used a shotgun, you know how likely that is. Which is to say: it’s not.)

None too bright: He was also convicted of “possession of a forged instrument”; no, not as in forged steel or anything like that, but a forged check, in the amount of $5,000, made out in his wife’s name… after he killed her.

Big, fat liar: “Tillman,” reports the Birmingham News, “had been leading a double life that was fast catching up to him, prosecutors said. He had been pretending to be an officer in the Navy, visiting the woman he is still married to while on trips to the West Coast for church business for the Vincent Revival Center.”

Facing: Twenty years to life for murder, and one to ten for forgery.

Sentencing scheduled: December 14, 2009.

Suggested Bible reading for Mr. Tillman:

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

— Exodus 20:13-17
