Tom Emmer, Tripp Emmer, David FitzSimmons & Now Mark Buesgens: Is Being an Irresponsible Drunk a Prerequisite to Working for the Emmer Campaign?

“Tom Emmer now has to deal with four separate stories involving members and former members of his campaign, and their run-ins with the law over alcohol consumption.”

— Hart Van Denburg

Tom EmmerTom Emmer

Claims to fame: Republican Minnesota State House Representative; 2010 Minnesota gubernatorial candidate; rabidly anti-choice; irrationally anti-contraception; revoltingly homophobic; friend to those who sound as if they would like to murder gays; number-one reason we boycott Target, Best Buy, and 3M products; two-time convicted drunk driver (1981 and 1991); rotten role model

Moral apex: Just look at “Claims to fame” (and hit the links) above; one of the nastiest human beings we’re grateful we’ve never had the displeasure of meeting.

Memorable quote:

Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.

So, why’s he here exactly? Because this drunk-driving thing seems to be a prerequisite for working for the Tom Emmer campaign…

David FitzSimmons

Claims to fame: Pig farmer; chair, Sixth District Republican Party; chair, Republican Liberty Caucus; former campaign manager for Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer; suspected drunk driver (busted, but not convicted)

Moral apex: Besides working for the evil Mr. Emmer? The drunk-driving bust.

And then there’s…

Mark BuesgensMark Buesgens

Claims to fame: Republican Minnesota House Representative; GOP strategist; former campaign manager for Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer; admitted drunk driver

Moral apex: Arrested September 18, 2010, for drunk driving (BAC: 0.16, twice the legal limit) through a ditch, and for carrying an open bottle in his car.

And get this: Earlier in the evening he was busted, Buesgens “had been a featured speaker at a Wright County Republican Party function.” (CityPages)

Yeah, so? So, it was held at a place called Dick & Patty Borrell’s Hangar — which caught the attention of blogger Sally Jo Sorensen, who in turned linked to a 2002 piece from the Howard Lake-Waverly Herald, “Wright Co. Republicans pull support from Dick Borrell“:

Wright County Republicans pulled their support from candidate Dick Borrell of Waverly asking him to withdraw from the race for District 19B following publication of an Oct. 5 Star Tribune article about sexual misconduct by Borrell 15 years ago.

The article details an incident in 1987, in which Borrell admitted to tricking a woman into a sexual act by trespassing into her apartment bedroom in the early morning hours following a night of heavy drinking, according to court documents.

The woman, who was in her 20s and was engaged to a relative of Borrell’s, said she thought Borrell was her fiance. Borrell was 35 at the time of the incident. ….

The woman sought counseling and filed suit in 1993. Borrell paid her $20,000 in a settlement for “negligent infliction of emotional distress.” …

In a … letter shortly after the incident, Borrell wrote “The fault is entirely mine. Believe me, I don’t understand myself, what possessed me to think so crazy, to do so wrong. I try to look for reasons to prove I’m sane. A 12-pack of beer, five screwdrivers and three kamakazis sure I was drunk real drunk.” …

Is everybody in Minnesota drunk all the time? Now, now, you know that’s not true.

Well, then, is everybody in Wright County drunk all the time? Oh, that wouldn’t be fair to say, either. Maybe just all the Republicans in Wright County — and throughout Minnesota — are drunk all the time. We really couldn’t say.

But get this: Dick Borell is now working for Tom Emmer — as his pilot.

You’re kidding. Nope. Matter of fact, there’s so much more dirt on Dick Borrell, we’ve decided to feature him in ConBab (watch for it).

Whew! Is that everything? Oh, heavens, no. We’ve saved the worst (well, the worst second only to Tommy-Boy, Sr.) for last…

Tripp EmmerThomas Earl “Tripp” Emmer, Jr.

Claims to fame: Son of Tom Emmer, featured as the apple of Daddy’s eye — and on Daddy’s payroll; illegal boozer

Moral apex: Busted at age 19 for underage drinking July 10, 2010.

What’s more: He patronized a strip club called Looker’s.

What’s more: The ever-helpful CityPages dug up a handful of incriminating, embarassing photos from Tripp’s Facebook page — which, ever so not-surprisingly, was scrubbed before Daddy Dearest announced his run for guv.

What’s more: CityPages says, “The source of the photos says they were obtained more than a year ago,” which means Tripp was younger than 19.

Below is just a sampling — the rest are available from CityPages in the article, “The Facebook photos Tom Emmer doesn’t want you to see,” September 2, 2010.

Memorable observation:

Tom Emmer has chosen to not only make “family values” front and center in his campaign (and his campaign’s website), he made his family front and center in his advertising, too…

The issue here is the pattern of actions of a paid campaign staffer, and son, of candidate Tom Emmer. Tom Emmer promoting his – and his family’s – “family values” yet one of his kids … gives the “tumb’s up” to drawing penises on the face and arms of an obviously unconscious woman, and who got drunk and went to a strip club a year later. That’s some “family values” to run a campaign around, “right”?

Suggested Bible reading for Messrs. Emmer, FitzSimmons & Buesgens, and for Master Emmer:

Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

— Proverbs 23:20-21
