Claims to fame: Husband-and-wife youth leaders, currently-shuttered “Lord’s Disciples Ministries of Whosoever Will,” a.k.a. “The Biker’s Church,” Maryville, Tennessee; he: convicted rapist; she: accused rapist; they: MySpace exhibitionists
Moral apex: Michael Roy Salazar, 37 (who bears an uncanny resemblance to “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez), was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to 10 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 10 counts of statutory rape by an authority figure, committed against five teenage girls in the church youth group he and his wife led. He will be eligible for parole in 2016.
His wife, Laura Lee Click Salazar, also 37, but who looks old enough to be her husband’s mother (and who bears an uncanny resemblance to a meth-addicted streetwalker), is due to face a grand jury October 15, 2010, on charges related to the same offenses against the same girls. She is currently free on bond.
Notes KnoxNews.com: “At a court appearance on Oct. 14, 2008, three of the female victims testified, two telling the court they were in love with Michael Salazar and the other saying she had ‘a crush’ on him. All were in the eighth or ninth grade at the time of the alleged offenses, which they said began in 2006.”
If you, too, have a, er, “crush” on Michael Salazar — or at least on his serial-killer “good looks” — you’ll definitely want to check out this fashion statement from 2008 — blue hair for him, and orange hair for her, which appears to be a failed attempt at a Connie and Raymond Marble look.
What’s this “Biker’s Church” about? From what we gather, the Lord’s Disciples is a motorcycle gang, and the “Lord’s Disciples Ministries of Whosoever Will” operates (or, rather, operated) under the auspices of Heritage Chapel of God, a Pentecostal church in Maryville.
The “head elder” of the Lord’s Disciples group is Heritage Church of God associate pastor David Hutsell, cousin to HCOG pastor Monte Stephens. Hutsell has quite an impressive rap sheet of his own, which includes arrests for seven counts of armed robbery, while Stephens merely admits to a history of hard partying.
Texnews profiled the “Biker’s Church” in 1997: “A biker is the preacher at this church.”
There is a Web site, of sorts, for The Lord’s Disciples Ministries of Whosoever Will, which offers little more than “worship times” and contact information, plus this mission statement:
“The Lord’s Disciples Ministries of Whosoever Will is dedicated to bringing God’s word and love to the youth of East Tennessee. Every Friday night the youth ministry holds a meeting, sermon and concert featuring the regions best in christian music. The Lord’s Disciples youth ministries seeks to use the concerts and bands to proclaim God’s love to people of all ages.”
Sounds like some of the clergy wants to bring the wrong kind of “love” to the youth of East Tennessee.
Incidentally: The “Biker’s Church” is a member of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. (Why do we find that both funny and fitting?)
Suggested Bible reading for Mr. and Mrs. Salazar:
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness; they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
— Jeremiah 23:14
