Ken Kratz (R-NoFoolLikeAnOldFool, Wis.)

Kenneth R. KratzClaims to fame: Republican Calumet County, Wisconsin, District Attorney; chair, Wisconsin Crime Victims Right Board; husband; sexter; adulterer; idiot

Moral apex: The 50-year-old D.A. sent some 30 text messages to the 26-year-old victim of a domestic-abuse case he was prosecuting in order to talk her into having an affair with him.

Memorable sexting quotes:

“I’m not worried…well maybe just a little. I’m more curious what made me text you?”

“…you are awfully sweet. Just don’t tell anyone, ok?”

“Please keep in touch. Its maybe not the wisest thing”

“I know this is wrong. I am such a honest guy, and straight shooter…but I have to know more about you. Does that make sense to you? I bet u get this a lot!”

“Are u the kind of girl that likes secret contact with an older married elected DA…the riskier the better? Or do you want to stop right now before any issues?”

“I need direction from you. Yes you are a risk taker and can keep your mouth shut and you think this is fun. or you think a man twice your age is creepy so stop”

“Why would such a successful, respected attorney be actling like he’s in 7th grade? Are you worried about me?”

“Have u ever been spoiled by someone? I mean like being taken care of and spoil him with attention in return? Without ever saying no?”

“If you are not worth that kind of passion, we’ll know it right away. For now I’m just suggesting we find out. Its either perfect or I’m not going to do it!”

“Hey..Miss Communication, what’s with the sticking point? Your low self-esteem and you fear you can’t successfully play in my big sandbox? Or???”

“I’m leaving for the day. Let me know after 8 tomorrow. You will be either excited or grossed out about the opportunity you have. But it will only come once!”

“You are beautiful and would make a great young partner someday. But I won’t beg!”

“I’m serious! Im the atty. I have the $350,000 house. I have the 6-figure career. You may have the tall, young, hot nymph, but I am the prize! Start convincing”

“I would not expect you to be the other woman. I would want you to be so hot and treat me so well that you’d be THE woman! R U that good?”

“And that you may look good at first glance, but women that are blonde, 6ft tall, long legs and great bodies don’t like to be shown off or to please their men!”

Excuse that won’t sit well with this wife:

“In late October of 2009, I engaged in electronic communications with a crime victim. text messages were sent by me and 23 messages were sent by the young women. I made it clear that any personal friendship that would develop would be after the prosecution was concluded.”

Consequences: None, despite calls for his resignation. He voluntarily recused himself from the case and resigned as chair from the Wisconsin Crime Victims Right Board — which was established to protect victims from mistreatment by officials. But he still intends to run for re-election in 2012.

Update:

Former Wisconsin DA Kenneth Kratz has been sued by Stephanie Van Groll, who Kratz admitted to sending sexually suggestive text messages while he was handling her domestic abuse case. The Washington Post reports that the civil suit claims Van Groll’s constitutional rights were violated because “under Wisconsin law, witnesses have the right to be protected from harm arising out of their cooperation with law enforcement.” The damages sought are unspecified. …

In addition to Van Groll, four other women have accused Kratz of behaving inappropriately during his tenure as DA… [including one woman who] alleges Kratz invited her on a date to an autopsy. …

Kratz is also under review by the Wisconsin Office of Lawyer Regulation, which could take away Kratz’s law license if he’s found guilty.

Suggested Bible reading for Mr. Kratz:

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

— Matthew 5:28
