Cedric Miller: Evangelical Hypocrite of the Year
Claims to fame: Senior pastor, Living Word Christian Fellowship Church, “an independent, non-denominational, Bible-believing” — and anti-gay — “church, embracing a charismatic style of worship”, Neptune, New Jersey; adulterer; probable bisexual; liar-by-omission
Moral apex: In November, 2010, preached that Facebook was a “portal to infidelity” and ordered church leaders to delete their Facebook accounts or resign.
So? So, it turns out Miller and his co-pastor wife, Kim — who run a marriage workshop ministry in their church — had an ongoing three-way “relationship” with a church assistant.
What’s more: The church assistant was male — which would be of no consequence to us, except that Mr. Miller is vehemently homophobic, equating homosexuality with “evil, greed, envy murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, boastful, disobedient to parents, senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. [sic]“
What’s more: Sometimes the three-way was a four-way, with the assistant’s wife.
How did this come to light? After Miller’s admonition to his colleagues, the Asbury Park Press dug up some damning testimony Miller made during a 2003 court case.
So, this is all in the past, right? Well, it probably would have been left in the past, had Miller “confessed” his “sin” and served as an example of reformation and redemption to his congregation. But he didn’t do that; he left his trangressions buried until forced to confront them. If he hadn’t projected his own failings onto his underlings, nobody would have gone looking for the skeletons in his closet.
And: This wasn’t a one-time thing; these mini-orgies happened “many, many times.”
And: Unless Mr. Miller would like to describe the graphic details of what went on between the two outwardly heterosexual couples, we’re going to assume there was plenty of man-on-man and woman-on-woman action.
Supreme irony: The July 15, 2010, entry, “Study on Romans (Week 4),” on Miller’s “Pastor’s Blog,” delves into Romans 1:18-32, which…
…deals with both the fallacy and consequences of alternate methods of righteousness. It should be noted that the context of these consequences are societal not merely personal.
Of course, Miller cites the verses containing the classic anti-gay “clobber passages” in Romans (25-28):
“Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
“And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;”
Miller writes:
Verse 25-26Humanism – an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters.
Exchanging the truth of God into a lie is humanism at his worse [sic]
Verse 27-28
… People in this condition have no interest in becoming righteous before God because their reprobate minds reject the truth of God’s word. Therefore their value system has no foundation or guiding principle. (Anything goes and nothing is immoral of itself)
This creates a society that has no absolutes regarding God or the bible.
Without a moral compass, lawlessness and rejection of God’s word it inevitable.
Gods [sic] Attitude towards homosexuality
He then cites verses 29-31…
“Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
“Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
“Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:”
…and concludes:
Verse 29-31Look at the list of the fruit of a reprobate society:
homosexuality, evil, greed, envy murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, boastful, disobedient to parents, senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. [sic]
The ultimate reprobate: Knows death is deserved for his actions but continues and approves of others who do the same.
Memorable quotes:
As a flower destined for beauty, Pastors Cedric and Kim Miller planted the seed of this local church in 1987 in their living room with a total of nine people, most of them family members.
Once Jesus enters a heart, and rules as Lord, a complete metamorphosis occurs. Purpose, attitudes, relationships, and perspectives all change.
Marriage & Family Enrichment: Workshops and seminars are hosted several times each year to instruct and equip people on how to build strong families. Parenting and communication skills are taught with an aim to prevent or remedy the problems common to most families. Additionally, marriage enrichment principles are presented with the goal of strengthening marriages and reducing the attrition rate of this most valuable institution.
Young Ladies’ Mentoring Program: Young Ladies on a Mission (YLM) is a community-based young ladies mentoring program that encourages, demonstrates, and promotes self-control, confidence, self-respect and maturity as we are transformed through Godly devotion and worship to become virtuous women.
Women’s Ministry: It is the mission of the Women’s Ministry of Living Word Christian Fellowship to be examples to the women of Living Word and our young ladies to follow.
A. We would talk and laugh and play and just beyond what was appropriate. …we had crossed the line many times. I mean between the four of us. It was just, I mean there was touching, there was… it was crazy, it was as wrong as wrong could get.
Q. Okay, it was sex, correct?
A. Yes.
Q. And you knew about it.
A. Yes.
Q. And you watched it.
A. Yes.
Q. And you knew your wife was engaging in this freely and voluntarily. Correct?
A. Yes.
Q. And it happened many, many times?
A. Yes.

April 15, 2003
I spoke on it [Facebook] a few weeks back, and just admonished people that there’s a reason why your past is the past and hopefully you have grown in the Lord, matured to not link up with a past that for many people is a Christless past.

Suggested Bible reading for Mr. Miller:
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
— Luke 6:41-43
Suggested Bible reading for Mrs. Miller:
For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
— Proverbs 23:27-28

SAN ANTONIO (AP) –
Authorities say a former Roman Catholic priest charged with sexually abusing a teenage boy in rural Texas is now accused of plotting the teen’s murder.
A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety says 52-year-old John Fiala was arrested at his suburban Dallas home after meeting with an undercover officer to arrange for the teen’s death.
Agency spokesman Tom Vinger tells the San Antonio Express-News that an informant told sheriff’s officials that Fiala offered him $5,000 to kill the teen. The teen filed a lawsuit in April, alleging he was sexually assaulted by Fiala in 2007 and 2008.
Fiala’s attorney didn’t return a message Monday.
Jail records show Fiala now faces a count of murder solicitation. Bail is set at $700,000.

You beat us to it, Sooz — Fiala’s going to be a featured Conservative Babylonian (up today, we hope). Many thanks!
