David Hedrick (R-ScaryLoser, Ore.)
Claims to fame: Operations manager/cost accounting manager, Portland, Oregon; rabid Teabagger and failed Republican candidate for the U.S. House from Washington state, who screams frequently about Socialism without appearing to know what Socialism is; frequent guest on make-believe “news” shows (primarily Fox) and of such pretend “experts” as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Victoria Taft, et al.; gun nut; self-proclaimed “Christian – Husband – Father – Patriot”; divorcé (thus, a biblical adulterer); accused wife-beater
Moral apex: Were it not for his alleged assault on his wife, his moral apex would have been his false claim that the Nazis were “leftist” Socialists (they weren’t), and that everybody he considers his enemy is a Socialist, and thus, a Nazi (including Nancy Pelosi). Or it might have been his claim that “most of what” the federal government does (or, rather, its agencies — but let’s not get hung up on Davy’s lack of grammar mastery), including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Education, “is a violation of the Constitution.”
“Alleged assault on his wife”? Do tell! He was arrested October 10, 2010, “on suspicion of fourth-degree assault, a gross misdemeanor. He is accused of striking his wife twice in the back of the head during an argument at their Camas home.” [The Columbian] She supposedly slapped him on the forearm, he knocked her to the floor, and, somewhere in all this, she hit him with a chair. Supposedly.
Plea: Not guilty, of course.
Stockholm syndrome? Since Big, Bad Hubby’s arrest, dutiful little wifey Megan Hedrick has “backed away from the assault allegation, saying her husband wasn’t dangerous. She also sent an e-mail to The Columbian, saying she was ‘out of control’ and her husband was trying to restrain her.” [The Columbian] (Sounds like some of that “Christian Domestic Discipline” we’ve heard some “Christian” couples use as an excuse to indulge in a BDSM lifestyle.)
Interesting: “Hedrick was divorced from his previous wife in July 2008. A mutual no-contact order between Hedrick and his ex-wife remains active until February 2013, records show.” [The Columbian]
What’s next: His trial is scheduled to begin January 28, 2011.
Memorable observations:
In spite of the claims of being “Marine Corporal” all over his campaign literature and several more of being “disabled Marine,” his web page makes no mention of his actual service, deployments, training, dates entered and left or honors received, as most other Veterans do, especially those seeking public office and running on their Military Service, other than the very first paragraph on his About Me Page…— “David Hedrick said, ‘I Kept My Oath.’ Just Exactly How, David?“

If the town hall meetings have taught us anything, it’s that America has no shortage of people who love to scream about Nazis whenever a microphone is within thirty yards.
David Hedrick uploaded himself fifteen minutes of fame today apparently purely by merit of being able to shout down a Democrat senator. …
Hedrick starts off with a levelheaded shriek of “stay away from my kids!” before foaming at the mouth about how it’s not Senator Brian Baird’s decision as to whether Hedrick or any Americans “keep” their insurance plans. …
Then immediately, it’s Nazis again. Hedrick gives everyone a history lesson about how Nazis were socialists, which garners predictable cheers, and then inexplicably shouts “I’ve kept my oath- do you ever intend to keep yours?”
About what? What oath did Senator Baird break? What is Hedrick referring to? The crowd cheers, but no one really knows why- loud noises? Because Hedrick is a vet? He’s yet to say one thoughtful or meaningful thing on the issue of healthcare reform, but that doesn’t seem slow him down none.
Overlooking the fact that none of his rant makes sense, the audience seems to dig Hedrick nearly as much as he digs himself. I’ve watched the clip a few times now, and I can’t seem to extract a single point of reason in the whole thing. Hedrick is clearly angry, but about what, it’s unclear.
