An interesting piece in the Dallas Morning News should sate the collective appetite until we get some actual news about Marcus Lamb’s adultery scandal, and the dueling lawsuits between Daystar and former employee Jeanette Hawkins.
One thing’s clear: Marcus and Joni Lamb can’t afford to lose this one: their lifestyle depends on it — although the Lambs are quick to note that viewer donations do not pay Daystar salaries, and did not buy the Lambs their 7,000-square-foot home.
We mean: It sounds like the Lambs are a bit nervous about the way the he-said, she-said, adultery + hush money + extortion stories are going to impact Daystar’s next fundraising marathon (or “Sharathon” — isn’t that just precious?).
Daystar’s audience, of course, is finite, and while it’s impossible to nail down the network’s actual number of viewers (”reach” does not “viewership” make), observers “believe the audience is largely limited to a portion of the conservative evangelical faithful.” No surprise that, but simply a reminder why the competition is so fierce for the pennies of lonely little old ladies who think money can buy you “blessings,” and that “Miracle Olive Oil Soap” will cure everything from lumbago to blindness.
