Deborah Cox-Roush (R-HelloOcifer, Fla.)
Claims to fame: Chair, Hillsborough County, Florida, Republican Party (2008-); contender for chair, (state) Republican Party of Florida; co-owner, Concessions by Cox, Inc., & Catering by Cox, Tampa, Florida; remarried divorcée (thus, biblical adulteress); drunk driver
Moral apex #1: Busted for blowing a .163 BAC — twice the legal limit — in 2004.
Moral apex #2: No one but a select few knew about it for six and a half years. When the story “made the rounds of e-mails Sunday [December 26, 2010], then surfaced on blogs,” Cox-Rousch came clean — but wasted no time in playing the victim (see the link to her long, whiney letter below).
Moral apex #3: Did we mention she’s divorced? Oh, yes — yes, we did.
High irony: The current chair of the Florida state GOP is State Sen. John Thrasher, who, as the St. Pete Times puts it, is in damage control mode — with his own party — trying to explain why he didn’t tell the national GOP about a federal subpoena demanding the release of party financial records. In the process, Thrasher “suggested … the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office are interested in former House Speaker Ray Sansom, who has been indicted in state court for his handling of the state budget.”
Ray Sansom? Isn’t that…? Yep — the former speaker of the Florida House of Representatives we just profiled.
But, wait! There’s more! Thrasher took over as Florida GOP chair from Jim Greer, whom you’ll remember, Faithful ConBab Reader, from his indictment this past year on charges of money laundering (he’s supposed to go on trial sometime in 2011).
Memorable quote:
“If you want a chairman that believes in our grassroots, that believes in our party, that believes in people, that is willing to admit mistakes and become better by them, a chairman that believes in the principles and values of our party, a Chairman that understands the blood, sweat and tears that all of you have given and shed for this party, a chairman that will work tirelessly, then I am that chairman.”— Deborah Cox-Roush
Letter to GOP state committee members
Which compels us to ask: If you’re so willing to “admit mistakes,” Ms. Cox-Rousch, why didn’t you admit to your DUI before somebody dug it up?
Suggested Bible reading for Ms. Cox-Roush:
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.— Psalm 44:21
P.S. Somebody remind us… to research this a little further (when we have time — or you’re welcome to do it): Cox-Rousch also wrote in her long, long letter: “I have hosted events for Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, Mitt Romney as well as others at no charge to the party. I have hosted countless meetings, district workshops, precinct training sessions, Web-elect training sessions, candidate events and other party related functions with absolutely no charge to the party.”
Did Rubio, Scott, Romney, et al., properly file these non-monetary donations? We’re sure they did, but we’re curious to see the donor filings for ourselves.
