Idaho Republican John McGee Gets 88 Days in the Slammer, Plus “Special Rights” Disgraced Anti-Gay Bigot Was All Too Happy to Deny Others

John McGee (R-Idaho)Backstory (well worth the read, because his adventures on his DUI joyride are even more interesting than his encounter with his aide): “John McGee (R-MiserableEmbarassment, Ida.),” June 13, 2012

McGee got 44 days for “disturbing the peace” — which doesn’t sound as bad as “subject[ing] his [25-year-old] female aide to a barrage of sexual innuendo.” But he wasn’t convicted of sexual harassment; he pleaded guilty to the innocuous-sounding “disturbing the peace” charge, as well as to a charge of violating conditions of his probation for his 2011 conviction of drunk driving — which earned him an additional 44 days, for a total of two days shy of three months behind bars.

He also got two years’ probation, has to undergo counseling (“about having healthy relationships and setting appropriate boundaries”), and gets to pay various court costs and restitution to his victim.

We like what the judge had to say; per the Idaho Statesman:

McGee’s attorney Scott McKay and prosecutors negotiated a deal where McGee would have spent five days in jail, but [Fourth District Magistrate James Cawthon] exceeded that agreement, telling McGee that he was taking into account his position as a public servant and the fact that he was already on probation for the DUI.

“It’s not a question of treating you differently. It’s a question of treating you like any other public servant that misbehaves to the level of committing criminal behavior,” Cawthon said.

After his sentencing (during which he appears in photos as if he’s blubbering like a little girl), McGee was placed in protective custody — not because anybody’s worried about him killing himself, but because. says AP, “Ada County law enforcement officials … fear media attention to his crimes and his high public profile could endanger his safety were he housed in the general inmate population.”

That’s odd, since it’s not like he raped a little kid or something. Maybe lawmakers who appear to give a damn about no one but themselves are terrified of meeting up with folks they might have screwed over as lawmakers. We have no idea — but it does bug us that McGee is being given special rights — which, by gosh!, was McGee’s own argument earlier this year against basic protections against discrimination in employment and housing for all Idahoans.

And here McGee is getting special rights for special protection because, it seems, he belongs to a special group.

Imagine that.

What a sissy — and we don’t mean that in the good, happy, proudly out Harvey “I like the sissy” Fierstein kind of way.

I have often wondered why the Democrats don’t use all the Republican scandals against them….you’ll notice that the major difference between Republican and Democratic corruption is that the GOP is into a lot of scared closeted gay sex while the POP just deals in money and connections. And if it isn’t scared closeted gay sex, then it’s sex with a minor, but notice the key word is sex.
