Kim John and Francis Philip, Rastafarian “prophets” — sent by God to destroy the demons that “infest” the Vatican — already escaped the death penalty once. Now they (and we) are waiting to hear their fate (their sentences were supposed to come down today, but we haven’t heard anything yet).
Both pleaded guilty last week to slaughtering a nun and a priest and setting parishioners on fire during a New Year’s Eve Mass in St. Lucia in 2000. (more…)

Backstory: “Eagle Scout Quintin P. O’Dell Charged with Hatchet-Murder of One Woman & Gutting Another Like a Fish,” February 6, 2012
Quintin Phillip O’Dell, 23, the much-lauded Eagle Scout who smirked for his mug shot (left), avoided an armful of sodium pentothal by pleading guilty to slaughtering a young woman in his hometown of Platte City, Missouri, and slicing open the belly of another woman with a razor before sexually assaulting her. (Amazingly, the latter survived.) (more…)

So far, we think we know this much:
A nonprofit outfit* called “Media for Christ” in Duarte, California, makes anti-Islam film. Producer lies to actors about purpose of film, redubs dialogue.
Producer uploads clip to YouTube using fake name “Sam Bacile” (which, notes the Christian Science Monitor, “is strikingly similar” to the middle name of one Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who denies directing the film, but says (more…)

And here we said back in May, at the news Patten was expected to plead guilty: “Good — unless, of course, a plea deal gets him anything less than life without parole.”
Well, that’s just what the sick freak got: life without parole.
Good.

“After the shooting of a Family Research Council security guard, social conservatives wasted no time in issuing blame. … The addition of the FRC to the [Southern Poverty Law Center's] hate group list is why social conservatives are saying that the recent shooting occurred.
“The obvious problem here this: if the SPLC merely putting the FRC (and other similar organizations) on a hate group list and pointing out the organization’s homophobic track-record is enough to induce this shooting, then what about the things that social conservative groups have said about and against gay people? … I submit to you that if the SPLC is culpable for what happened at the FRC, then the following persons and organizations, (more…)

This is an unbelievably horrific story not recommended for the weak of heart. If you’re easily upset, turn to the next (or last) story before you get to the section on Dena Schlosser — but do read about Doyle Davidson.
First: Doyle Davidson is the self-proclaimed “Apostle” and “Prophet” of Water of Life Ministries in Plano, Texas. Since a picture in this case is worth a million words, take a look at what goes on at Water of Life: (more…)

An East Bay woman is facing murder charges after she allegedly smothered and beat another woman — using a pillow and possibly a Bible — in what she claims to have been an attempted exorcism.
Karla Kuhl, 35, of El Sobrante, has been charged with murdering 58-year-old Patricia Medeiros on June 5. …

“We must worship a different God because there is no way that my God would have wanted George Zimmerman to kill my teenage son.”
George Zimmerman, Mister Conceal-Carry, Self-Appointed Neighborhood Cop who in February gunned down 17-year-old Trayvon Martin (who was — gasp! — black — and armed with — gasp! — a can of Arizona Iced Tea and a bag of Skittles), tells Faux News flack Sean Hannity that his confrontation with Trayvon which ended in the teen’s death was simply “God’s plan.” (And he’s not one to question the Almighty!) Question of the day: If the Mormon “Power of Discernment” is true, why didn’t it work for anyone — anyone — in all of West Jordan, Utah?
Second question: If “divine intervention” can be credited for catching a killer (or alleged killer), why didn’t “divine intervention” stop him in the first place?

“We hear of the pro-life fight, but not of the pro-human fight. Where is the fight for the child’s salvation in the face of dysfunction and challenges on his or her journey through life? If those who battle for the right-to-life fought against failures in the child welfare system across the nation, more lives might indeed be saved. …
“Proponents of right-to-life argue that life is a decision that should be left to God. Yet man has created a conflict for himself. It cannot be reasoned that (more…)

We’ve been waiting for this for what seems like forever. Yet while we celebrate one of those rare moments in which we see that the long arc of the moral universe does indeed bend toward justice, we can’t help but wonder: What must Pat Robertson be thinking right now?
What? You mean you didn’t know Pat Robertson, that supreme judge of all things moral and immoral, invested between $8 million and $15 million (allegedly CBN [Christian Broadcasting Network] and/or PTL money) in Liberian blood diamonds, giving Liberia’s murderous dictator Charles Taylor a 10% share in Reverend Pat’s Freedom Gold, Ltd., — or that Pat allegedly used his own “humanitarian” air fleet to move those dirty diamonds out of Africa (“Operation Blessing’s tax-exempt cargo planes were used almost exclusively for Roberton’s diamond-mining operation, not for humanitarian purposes“), and allegedly lobbied the Bush administration to support the Taylor regime? (All of which Pat denies! Denies, he tells you! Denies, denies, denies!) (more…)
