We swear we did not go looking for War-On-Drugs hypocrites today — they’re just popping up right and… well, actually, only on the Right. As soon as we finished telling you about Lake Forest city council member Peter Herzog, a real hard-ass on medical marijuana, who was busted on a DUI charge, up popped Steve Katz. (more…)

Joseph “JoJo” Giorgianni — the “Quarter-Ton Sex-Offender” who was elected three times as Republican Committeeman for New Jersey’s North Ward after being convicted of sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl he got liquored up in the back room of his Trenton restaurant — is one of those Conservative Babylonians whose story just plain sticks in our collective craw: He was sentenced to 15 years in prison but served only a measly three.
Thus, certainly unfairly but most unashamedly, we’re happy to see him up on charges of anything else — that’s how bugged we are that he’s been allowed to walk around free all these years (since 1985, when he was paroled, having nearly avoided prison altogether; his lawyer argued that his massive, and asthmatic, 565-pound bulk should amount to a get-out-of-jail-free card). March 14, 2013 — The former pastor of a northwest Indiana megachurch is scheduled for sentencing today for persuading a 16-year-old girl to engage in a sexual affair with him by telling her that Jesus desired it.

Jennifer Carroll, the lieutenant governor of Florida who shot back at rumors she was a lesbian by implying that she’s not ugly enough to be a black lesbian, is no longer lieutenant governor of Florida, having “abruptly resigned on Tuesday, the result of a criminal investigation into an Internet sweepstakes company for which she once served as a consultant,” according to the New York Times, which notes: (more…)

Because you haven’t heard Pat Robertson say anything really stupid since… well, since this, which happened a mere three days before the story you’re about to read: “Pat Robertson: Out! Out, You Demons of Goodwill!.”
Is it just us, or is Pat getting weirder, faster…? (more…)
It’s been a while since we looked under Larry Craig‘s stall, and it’s still full of exactly what you’d expect to find in an airport toilet. Only there’s even more of it, and it really stinks.
As you may recall, the FEC sued ol’ Water-Closet-Case last year, claiming he “converted more than $200,000 of campaign contributions to his (more…)
Ricky, Ricky, Ricky… Either you think you’re too clever by half (you’re not), or you really are so dumb, you think American Atheists is (yes, “is,” not “are”; it’s the name of an organization) was silly enough to pay for a platform to express your impotent dreams of a ca.-14th-century Catholic theocracy.
Either way, Ricky, you are too dumb to realize that every American in his right mind will be scared to death at the idea of a nation under your god. And that includes Catholics. Well, at least those whose names aren’t Bill Donohue. (more…)

“Projection is the psychological phenomenon where someone denies some aspect of their behavior or attitudes and assumes instead that everyone else is doing or thinking so instead. It is usually seen as the externalisation of a person’s negative traits, placing blame on an outside force such as the environment, a government, a society or other people. …”

Because you haven’t heard Pat Robertson say anything really stupid lately…
Of course, if you haven’t heard Pat Robertson say anything really stupid lately, that’s probably because you don’t listen to Pat Robertson every day. And neither do we — we haven’t the luxury of sitting around laughing all day. (more…)

A guy from Minnesota named Gerard Cellette is facing a whopping 116 counts of fraud, money laundering and other highly illegal shenanigans related to what the Orange County, California, D.A. calls “the largest Ponzi scheme to be prosecuted in Orange County history.” Cellette is accused of defrauding 55 victims in California — “without ever entering the State of California,” notes the D.A. — out of $21 million. There’s a nice, long explanation below that details exactly what Cellette is accused of doing (and why, until he was extradited to California a couple of weeks ago, he’d been twiddling his thumbs in a Minnesota prison) — but first, let’s hit the convoluted backstory. Two videos after the jump.
When the news broke on the 18th that Christine Shreeve Hubbs — the Livermore, California, Mormon mom who plied two young boys with gifts and then had sex with each (the first reportedly her daughter’s boyfriend, and the second reportedly a patsy used to make the first boy jealous when he started pulling away from the shameless old cougar) — had been released from prison and was busted again less than a week later on a parole violation, we had no idea what sort of violation it was. Now, we know — but the parole violation is nothing compared to the rest of the story that’s just now emerging. If this is accurate, it’s almost as sick as anything that’s come before in the Hubbs saga, and highly disturbing. (more…)

Ironically, a post we made in 2011 ended with this: “Unless something bizarre happens while she serves her sentence, this is the probably the last you’ll hear of Chrissy Hubbs until 2016 — or maybe 2013, if she’s a good girl… for a change.”
Well, she made it to 2013 without warranting a mention from us — but it looks like she just can’t stop being a very bad girl… (more…)

Hear that? It’s the sound of crickets — which is exactly what we expected to hear while waiting for Michael Salman‘s defenders (“He’s being persecuted for being a Christian!”) to again rush to his defense now that Salman, his wife, and his brother have all been nailed — not to a cross, but for for fraud.
Make sure to read the backstory in order to 1) understand why we find Salman one of the most irritating Conservative Babylonians we’ve ever documented (and a scary one, too, (more…)

The music is a bit Faux News-style melodramatic, but this short news report (with part 2 on ABC 4/Salt Lake City tomorrow night, February 5th) is worth the watch; until you hear victims speak, it’s often difficult to imagine their very real agony. (more…)
