(And we think you think you’re being mighty cute ‘n’ clever by not mentioning any names in order to preserve your tax-exempt status.)
Tim Ruhl, pastor of Proposition 8-pushing, Hate Talk Express church Pleasant Valley Baptist (IFB, of course) in Chico, California — and father of alleged jailbait fondler (and former youth pastor) Jesse Ruhl — says: “You can take it a thousand ways.”

As we’ve written before, we’re hardly fans of evangelist David Cloud, but we won’t deny that we seem to share much the same view of Jack Hyles and his legacy of perversion.
Dave-O’s latest entry on the Hyles cult quotes liberally from, he says, “Linda Murphrey’s testimony at the TEDxOjaiChange event in Ojai, California, April 5, 2012.” Linda Murphrey, he says, is “the daughter of the late Jack Hyles” (obviously not the daughter dumb enough to save her first kiss for that scoundrel Jack Schaap), and who, Dave opines, “appears from this testimony [to have] (more…)

You’re going to want to save this video, because 1) First Baptist Hammond will almost undoubtedly get it taken down, and 2) you’re going to have to watch it two or three times to convince yourself you’re actually seeing what you’re seeing, and hearing what you’re hearing. We’re still agape — and not in the “Christian” sense of the word.
By the way, this, er, sermon was for a 2010 youth conference: (more…)

Our take: It was only a matter of time. We are so not surprised.
Our hope: This will take down the Hyles-Anderson Pervert Factory once and for all.*
Our only question: Was it a live boy or a dead girl? Oh, wait — it was a live girl (more…)

Speaking of hypocritical Independent Fundamental Baptists (and we were), it appears Florida’s Bearean Baptist Church, that is, David Hyles‘s old church — the one he was reportedly thrown out of for “sexual misconduct” with three different women, including the infamous Joyce Phaneuf — is up for sale. Really, folks, we would have contacted the webmaster(s) at FundamentalForums.com to ask: “Do you approve of the use of the slur ‘homofaggots’ in the title of one of your users’ posts?” but there is no contact information anywhere on the site. So, since many of FF’s regular forum posters visit ConBab (and we know you do, sweeties!), we figured if we mentioned this here (and on Twitter), word would get back to the FF webmaster(s). (more…)

What more can be said about Jack Hyles, father of a vast network of IFB (Independent Fundamental Baptist) churches that have spawned a disproportionate number of sick perverts? (Yes, disproportionate for all Baptist churches.)
A lot, apparently. Fundy preacher David Cloud just released another of his e-books, The 2 Jacks: Jack Hyles & Jack Schaap, which you can download for free. (more…)

First, catch up with the story of Jesse Ruhl, former youth pastor of his daddy’s anti-gay, IFB Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Chico, California, who missed his January 18th arraignment, at which he was supposed to answer to charges of a “relationship” with a 16-year-old girl.
Now… The February 28 warrant for Jesse’s arrest has just been recalled. What this means, in laymen’s terms, per USLegal.com: “A bench warrant is a formal order of the court to law enforcement officers to arrest and bring to jail a person who has failed to appear in court at a determined time and place. A bench warrant recall is a reversal of authorization to make an arrest. Usually, once the warrant (more…)

We wouldn’t have been as inclined to spotlight Jesse Ruhl if his church — where his daddy is pastor — hadn’t inserted itself so violently into the wrong side of the Proposition 8 battle:
Jesse Daniel Ruhl , former youth pastor of of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church (yet another Independent Fundamental Baptist [IFB] church), Chico, California, “is being sought after he missed a Jan. 18 arraignment hearing in Butte County Superior Court for an alleged relationship with a 16-year-old girl that was first reported in February 2011.” (more…)

Sentenced: Travis Payne, 67, pastor, South Texarkana Baptist Church and director/chaplain, Trucker’s Chapel, Texarkana, Arkansas, to five years after being convicted of sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl “inside his church last April … a few minutes before the start of a church revival service on April 25,” 2011,” reports Word & Way. (We’d link to a more mainstream source, but a certain Texarkana newspaper is on our blacklist — and a lot of other blacklists — thanks to the shakedown by copyright troll Righthaven — which appears to be just about over, but (more…)

Because we could spend 24/7 tracking the sins of right-wing religionists (especially “youth pastors”) and never get caught up. Of the following, the more interesting cases will probably end up with their very own Conservative Babylon entries.
Arraigned: Charles Michael Abdelahad, pastor for 20 years (until December, 2010), St. George Antiochan Orthodox Cathedral, Worcester, Massachusetts, on one count of rape, four counts of assault and battery, and five counts of assault and battery with a weapon, allegedly committed against a woman. Court records recount allegations of Abdelahad beating the woman, biting her all over her body, and hitting her with a “religious icon,” among other forms of assault, all of which, in addition to the rape, is alleged to have occurred at the church. Sacked: Marshall Brown, 57, former associate rector, Truro Church, Fairfax, Virginia, “for repeatedly using a church computer to surf for pornography.” One of the largest Episcopal parishes in the U.S., Truro broke away from the American mother church to follow the radically homophobic Uganda-based Anglican strain; Brown, notes WaPo, “helped lead 14 Virginia parishes to break away from the Episcopal Church after the 2003 election of the denomination’s first openly gay bishop.” WaPo also notes that “Truro arranged for Brown, now 57, to receive treatment for an Internet addiction after he reported having a problem.” Story: Washington Post, January 7, 2011 (more…)
