Republican activist, campaigner; former regional representative for Colorado Governor’s Office of Economic Development; Internet chat-room predator; child molester
Moral apex: Ankeney, whom the Rocky Mountain News called a “fixture in El Paso County Republican politics,” was arrested in 2001 on suspicion of sexual assault on a child with force, sexual assault on a child, sexual exploitation of a child, marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The short version: Lured 13-year-old girl to his apartment, plied her with booze and pot, photographed her topless, then had sex with her.
What’s more: After his arrest, a second girl — a 17-year-old campaign worker — charged him with sexual assault.
End result: In 2002, he pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault on a child.
Fun fact: He named his dogs Nixon and Reagan.
Suggested Bible reading for Mr. Ankeney:
But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.— Judges 19:25
