Guilty plea: Charles Agbu, 58, pastor, Pilgrim Congregational Church, Carson, California, “to conspiring with doctors, the operators of fraudulent medical clinics, street-level patient recruiters, and others to defraud Medicare of more than $11 million,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Copping to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and one count of money laundering, Agbu “faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine” at his scheduled sentencing on May 16, 2013. SAN ANTONIO, Texas (CN) — The Boy Scouts of America must cough up records of sexual abuse claims made against adults in the organization, a Texas judge ruled.
Lawyers believe the so-called perversion records will help them prove that the Scouts are liable for the alleged abuse committed by troop leader James Hiatt. A Bexar County jury convicted Hiatt of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2008.
In a 2011 petition, an 18-year-old former scout, using the pseudonym John Adams, claimed that Hiatt sexually abused him during his time with Troop 41 in 2004 and 2005.
The San Antonio resident sued the Irving, Texas-based organization and the Alamo Area Council for negligence. (more…)

Arrested: Rene Andrade, 43, youth pastor, Iglesia Cristiana El Shaddai, Los Angeles, and charged with committing lewd acts on a minor. After reportedly meeting the 15-year-old girl at church, he kept in touch with her by phone and through Facebook, and allegedly drove to San Bernardino to have sex with her. The girl’s mother put two and two together, and Andrade was arrested on his next trip east. He is being held on $350,000 bail. Arrested: Aaron Brooks, 23, youth volunteer, Bayside Community Church, Bradenton, Florida, and soccer coach at various outfits in the area, including at least one YMCA facility; “after admitting to inappropriately touching a 6-year-old boy, according to the Bradenton Police Department,” reports the Bradenton Herald. Charged: Raymond Roland Collette, 40, media director, City on the Hill Church, St. Petersburg, Florida, “with trying to entice a minor into a sex act after allegedly asking a mother who responded to one of his many Craigslist ads if he could worship her 4-year-old’s shoes – while posing as a woman and using photos from the Facebook profile of a female church member,” reports the New York Daily News. Accused again: Clienton Leroy Bryant, 49, Cub Scout leader and employee (now on “administrative leave”) of Ivy Baptist Church, Newport News, Virginia, charged in February with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship, involving a Cub Scout now 11 years old, who was allegedly molested over the course of more than a year. Charged: Seth Butler, 24, youth minister, New Jerusalem Temple Ministries, Chicago, Illinois, with aggravated sexual assault of a minor, a 14-year-old girl whose family claims in a civil suit that Butler repeatedly molested her in the church-owned basement apartment where he lived. PORTLAND (CN) — More than 1,200 files describing children’s allegations of sexual abuse in the Boy Scouts of America may become public after the Oregon Supreme Court ruled Thursday that such decisions are a matter of judicial discretion.
A jury awarded Kerry Lewis more than $19.4 million in April 2010 for sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of Scoutmaster Timor Dykes. (more…)
New trial denied: John Charles Eichinger, 40, of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; Eagle Scout and serial killer “convicted in 2005 of the stabbing deaths of three women and a child in slayings five years apart,” who “received three death sentences,” as per the Times Herald. “Eichinger fatally stabbed Jennifer Still in her Bridgeport apartment in 1999.
