“Without any immediately scheduled Congressional debates on social-issue legislation to energize its base, the Christian right has adopted President Bush’s messianic ‘struggle for civilization’ as a central feature of its culture war rhetoric going into the midterm elections. [Family Research Council president Tony Perkins] framed the issue by linking liberal evildoers with Islamic extremists, warning that ‘we are facing threats from within and from without.’ [Former FRC president Gary Bauer] described how the passengers of United Flight 93 heroically ran toward the cockpit on (more…)

Gary, Gary, Gary… You’re so transparent. You’re really pushing this after the Blacks-v.-Gays fourberie has already been exposed all over the world? Either you’re not very smart, or you are very smart, and know exactly what kind of idiots buy into this garbage.
Granted, NOM is still trying this tired old gambit, even though everybody knows it has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with religion. Bad religion. (more…)

Let’s see: Newtie is almost 69 years old now, and will be 73 in 2016… Could this be the last time we’ll have to listen to the big crybaby quite so often (at least, until he makes another hate-the-gays TV ad)? If we were the praying sort, we’d say: “Let us pray.”
Linda Ocasio at the Star-Ledger delivers the good news in a headline practically oozing with relief: “Newt Gingrich drops out of race, at long last”

“…Santorum says giving Mitt Romney the nomination would be the same mistake as the GOP made in 1976 when Gerald Ford took the ticket instead of Ronald Reagan. You see, Ford was a moderate (aka, closet liberal), while Reagan was a God-fearing conservative of which Santorum says he is a mirror image.
“But is Santorum talking about THE President Ronald Reagan? That Reagan raised taxes, was divorced and remarried, liberalized immigration laws, (more…)

“The other big news in GOP politics today was the continuing unfolding reaction to Sen. John McCain repudiating the Republican ‘war on women’ Sunday on ‘Meet the Press.’ Excuse me if I’m not fully grateful for McCain’s allegedly brave stance. The man professed to believe that women have the right to their own decisions on contraception, but didn’t mention that he voted for the Blunt Amendment, which would have given employers the right to deny contraception coverage if they didn’t approve of it — in fact, to deny coverage of any treatment they personally disdained. What hypocrisy.”

Gee, it seemed like only yesterday we were telling you (thanks to CNS) that Newt Gingrich’s think tank, The Gingrich Group, a.k.a. Center for Health Transformation, went belly-up… Oh, wait, it was yesterday.
Today, Newtie’s “campaign” (air quotes because he has about as much chance of winning the Repub nom for the presidency as, well, as we do) wrote a check to the state of Utah for a ballot (more…)

“When Newt and Rick speak for their church’s tender conscience on not being forced to insure women’s health, they are speaking for a church body run by old men who have presided over 50 years of covering up child abuse, sexual molestation and the codling of fascist regimes from Franco to Mussolini. …

The gist: The former Republican Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives — who sexually molested his own stepdaughter and a friend of hers for some eight years from the time the girls were nine years old (and later molested another teen girl), landing him a 13-year prison sentence (on top of a six-year sentence he was already serving for corruption) — says he’s writing a book “to tell his version of corrupt offenses and lewd acts” that occur inside el Centro de Tratamiento de Humacao (the Humacao Treatment Center), where he is incarcerated.
